Formed in Athens in 1990, The Illusion Fades remains the most popular goth metal band out of Greece. The band is primarily the work of singer/song-writer George Dedes, though the various members who have come and gone have each contributed to the band’s development over the years. The guitar-driven rock sound of The Illusion Fades will appeal easily to fans of such legendary acts as Sisters of Mercy and The Mission, particularly on their early releases, and fans of gothic metal will find a lot to like about their latest release, Psycho Burn.

The songs of The Illusion Fades can be likened to a deposition of one’s own soul. Personal feelings and emotions are interpreted into sounds and words. The audio experience they create is one that can be enjoyed by any human soul, as it is an appreciation not only of music, but also of expression and feeling.

The band’s first full length album, self-titled The Illusion Fades, was released on vinyl in 1993. Their follow-up effort, the “Shadowlove” EP of 1996, saw the band heading in a direction that was both darker and more atmospheric; a direction that would lead to their 1999 release “In The Arms Of An Angel.” The band’s sound on this album was fresher, and it was well received by fans. “In Black,” their 2003 release, was recognized as Metal Hammer’s release of the month in January of that same year.
The band’s most recent release is 2006’s “Psycho Burn,” featuring the song, and video, “Dead White Snow” truly a deep melodic album with an edge. With their new album “Killing Ages” the band is welcoming now their 5th, as they further their career in enchanting one’s soul. .
